Box Invitations: All You Need To Know

If you adore box invitations and have always dreamed about having them as wedding or birthday invitations then this post is especially for you. Box invitations are always associated with words such as glamour, sophistication, elegance and style – in other words just all out GORGEOUS!! This post is set out to provide you with an abundance of information to do with all the pretty options and styles of box invitations, along with all the printing techniques that we offer so you can combine them to make a perfect boxed invitation uniquely you.

Firstly we offer 2 types of boxes:

1. Luxury Hardboard box invitations. These can come with the lid and base connected to each other with a ribbon hinge or a separate base and lid. For such a luxury box we usually recommend having your monogram foiled on the box lid in a foil colour of your choice from gold, silver, rose gold, copper, gunmetal and array of other foils. The box shape can be completely customised to suit you and the cards inside. To top it off we can finish off this box with a beautiful satin ribbon bow. A wide range of paper options are available for these boxes from shimmer and textured to plain colours or patterned.

2. If you love the showstopping statement of a box invite but time or budget constraints you then our Standard boxes would be best for you. We custom make these boxes inhouse and are made from thick 300gsm paper. These boxes are available in 3 different sizes: 160mm square, A5 and DL long slim. With this box selection we are able to digitally print, letterpress, emboss or foil on the box lid in any preferred colour or design. There are also 2 options to finish off your box, you can opt to have a ribbon bow around the entire box or only opt to have a bow around the lid of the box. The latter option allows guest to open and close your invitation without having to struggle to replace the bow back around the box. Garnish your ribbon or bow with a diamante buckle or perspex engraved tag to finish off the effect.

When you have selected the option that best suits your theme we can move on to your box inserts. Here the options are endless!! We are able to do anything that you could possibly think of…but to make things a little easier we will mention the inserts that are the most popular. So here they are:

1. Firstly we are able to digitally print paper cards in any style or theme of your choice. Have a lot of info? No problem, we can add in as many cards as you require.

2. Our second option is to do letterpressed inserts. The norm with this is generally to only have your main card letterpresses and then digitally print the additional card should you have a lot of information. The again nothing is holding you back to have all cards letter pressed.

3. The third option that we have available is to opt for foiling. The colours that we have available and often use are gold, silver, rose gold, copper and gunmetal. A lovely and popular option is to combine letterpressing with the foiling.

4. The last and most glamorous option is our perspex engraved invite cards. We are able to design these in any shape and size that you can think off. Perspex is available in a variety of colours: gold, silver, clear, black and white.

Now that you have selected your box and insert that suits your wedding theme, you can now add any number of additions… these include a beautiful intricate lasercut pockets or gate folders, tissue paper or band with your guests names on. Today we are showcasing our STUNNING new range of boarding pass invitations. Available in a wide range of colours and design styles. You’re bound to find one that suits your style and wedding theme perfectly. This invitation was created for a travel inspired wedding; for couples that met while travelling or those that lived in different counties while dating – the long distance lovers! Of course, they’re perfect for any love story, whether that involves a plane and an ocean or not.

We absolutely adore each and every one of them, but we will let you try to find a favourite as we struggle to select between all the elegant options.

This invitation consists of a luxurious boarding pass pocket in a colour of your choice, which is then foiled in a metallic colour in one of 3 phrases on the front cover. Two digitally printed cards are placed inside the pocket, one is the main card, sporting the ceremony details and an additional card holds the directions or your gift details. A basic white envelope is included with each boarding pass invitation.

Moodboard 17: Stylish in Navy

Mood board 17 has brought us back to an all-time favourite: the stunning combination of navy blue and gold foiling! The contrast between these two colours is sure to create a showstopper invitation every time. The combination of these two colours together creates an invitation that speaks of elegance, sophistication and most definitely royalty!

Showcasing an invitation that portrays these VERY aspects, is this breathtaking invitation that we designed for Nono & Dizika who are getting married later this year at the stunning Cavalli Stud Estate. We created a quirky and unique family crest monogram for the couple consisting of a hare and a monkey, which we combined with their intertwined initials. We created two versions of their monogram for them: One to be foiled on the back flap of their invitations and one to be letter pressed on their invitation card along with the rest of their text, exempt for the couples names that were stamp foiled in gold. Their elegant invitation card was then placed inside a stunning intricate gold pocket.

We love this invitation and we hope these photos are able to this little beauty justice.

Stationery & Wedding Feature | Luzana & Piotr

The Secret Diary team is always honoured to create stationery for couples from right around the world. Today we take a look at another stunning couple’s photos and stationery who’s love blossomed from afar. The beautiful photographs, taken by Piotr Spigiel, of the wedding held in Poland is definitely to be envious of. Who wouldn’t want to be married next to a fairytale-like castle and garden such as the one at Wojanów Palace?

We created three different versions for Luzana and Piotr which included English, Portuguese and Polish invitation cards. The couple’s classic stationery suite is all letterpressed in charcoal on a cream paper stock which came together with a dark emerald green liner. This stationery suite can be summed up as classic, understated and timeless with a touch of royal flair.

Letter Pressed Enchantment

When one pairs new with old, you have to have an exceptional eye for putting certain elements together. The elements need to provide a contrast to one another while still creating a kind of harmony, which tends to be difficult to get right. Perhaps the main principle of design, when it comes to this overlapping of different time periods, is to keep the design relatively clean, so that each element gets the spotlight equally.

This flat, square card emphasises again just how beautiful and powerful the old printing technique of letter pressing really is. The impression that the letter pressing makes into the paper accentuates the hand-crafted feel of the save-the-date. The overall design is contemporary, with two contrasting typefaces being used. The sans serif typeface conveys the sense of modernity while the script typeface conveys a warmer, more romantic appeal.

So throughout, the save-the-date has the underlying theme of contrast, which is what makes it so attractive to the naked eye. The colour palette is dove grey and white – two neutral colours that can be seamlessly integrated into any other colour platte. The dove grey also works well when paired with gold, silver or even rose gold foiling, as another option.

Moodboard 14: Delicate Details

Today, looking at our 14th moodboard in the Moodboard series, we’re paying close attention to the details. At Secret Diary, we pride ourselves on this very principle; we feel that in order to create a masterpiece, attention to detail is an absolute must! We carry this standard through from the design process, to printing and production, and through to quality assurance. Each invitation that we are honoured to create, we treat as a piece of art – beautiful and unique in it’s own way.

We created this beautiful, embossed pocket invitation for Emma & Cameron’s special day, that just overflows with delicate details! The A5, off-white pocket is embossed with a stunning lace-inspired pattern on the bottom flap and a smooth, unprinted top flap. The main invitation is letter pressed in two colours: The couple’s names in a duck-egg blue, and the 4 additional cards in charcoal. This invitation pocket is finessed with a duck-egg blue ribbon and placed inside an envelope with a charcoal envelope liner… Simplistic elegance from start to finish!

Moodboard 13: Blush pink & Rose Gold

Mood board 13 has brought us to the breathtaking combination of blush pink and rose gold! A stunning colour combination if we do say so ourselves… We just adore the contrast between the soft pink and the solid metallic foiling. When we are contacted by a client requesting these colours, we JUMP at the opportunity to assist them with creating a one-of-a-kind invitation, unique to them in every way possible. We feel that a wedding invitation is so much more than just a piece of paper! In our exquisite team’s hands, a simple piece of paper is turned into a masterpiece…

We are extremely honoured to showcase one of our latest invitations consisting of this colour combination. We created this STUNNING blush pink laser cut, pocket invitation for Kaela & Mwewa. This invitation consisted of an intricate blush pink laser cut pocket with a cream shimmer paper invitation card, that was letterpressed in grey with the couple’s names foiled in rose gold. To round the card off, we embossed a beautiful pattern of a tree and birds on the side of their card.

Dupi and Hale’s Invitations

I want to share this STUNNING beaut of an invitation with you all on this blustery monday morning. We designed it for Splendid Affairs clients, Dupi and Hale last year and we love the final result. The invitation consists of 2 digitally printed cards which are wrapped in a delicate cream lace lasercut folder.

This is then enclosed in semi-translucent paper and placed in an A5 box. The box has their wreath monogram letterpressed into the lid and finished off with a cream and white printed ribbon and a lasercut clear perspex name tag.

Moodboard 4: Grey Edition

With mood board 4 in our series we are going GREY… We at Secret Diary absolutely adore the colour grey. We feel that grey invitations just has this effortless sense of elegance and style to it!! And on the plus side there are so many different ways to create and design these invitation to fit your wedding theme perfectly. They can be designed to fit almost any wedding that you could possibly dream of!! The variety of pops of colour to combine with them are endless…

For this mood board we have decided to combine this beautiful light grey pocket invitation with a rustic forest theme wedding. This invitation consists of a grey letterpressed main invite card attached to the pocket with twine. Along with two addition digitally printed information sheets providing the details for the weekend and an RSVP card with the return address, that slides into the side pocket on the right.

The twine element in combination with the light grey pocket creates the beautiful rustic feel of the wedding without overpowering the invitation. Then also the beautiful wreath design on the front of the light grey information sheets further added to the contrasting modern and rustic style of this beautiful invitation we created for Emma & Dominic. The invitation is the finished off with a pretty twine bow.
