We created a couture design for their invites, which included a gold ornate perspex invitation, a textured additional card with gold foiled text and a custom monogram. The invite was placed inside a white textured envelope with a custom-made wax seal. The classic gold and white theme continued throughout their stationery designs in the four-page program fans, napkin bands, and on-the-day decor.

From the all-white floral arrangements and island garlands hanging from the ceilings to the casual reception dinner on the beach, this wedding feels like it hit the perfect combination between a destination and traditional style.

The invite works together well within a set; composed of a square, navy, lasercut and engraved pocket with ‘our forever’ foiled in silver. The rest of the invite is digitally printed. The extra information card, silver envelope with a lasercut and engraved liner, rounds the set off nicely.

The invite ties together by using constellation maps that represent parts of our universe. The intricate maps are laser cut, leaving you with a really beautiful and textured invite. The invite also ties together elements of Earth and space; the constellation maps allow our minds to ponder about the universe, while the digitally printed marble brings us back to Earth. This invite would fit seamlessly into a wedding that twinkles with metallics and neutrals.

I am often a creature of habit. I enjoy doing designs that suit my taste and my style. However, everybody is unique and I think that is the part I love the most about the design industry – the diversity of clients. For this wedding, the couple were Indian. The wedding was a two day event, that started off with a Moroccan inspired evening event. I loved designing the stationery for this event, all around a Moroccan theme. I was overwhelmed with all the beauty and detail that I found in the reference pictures of Moroccan design elements, for my stationery. The next event was the Black Tie Wedding, which was the next day. For this event, the style was slightly more contemporary and floral as opposed to the traditional Moroccan stationery on the evening before. I used a really beautiful and delicate script typeface to bring across the detail of a traditional Indian wedding, but also the elegance in its thin letterforms. The bride’s palette for this wedding was a soft ballet pink, gold and white which really tied in as a whole with the flowers and other decor at the wedding. I really enjoyed designing in a different style in contrast to my own and learning about weddings in different cultures.

Introducing the pop-up place card

Laser cutting technology amazes me everyday. Just about anything you can dream up can be made. This is where the creativity of the designers at Secret Diary come into play. We constantly push the limits and ourselves to create new and innovative products for our clients. Our machines are able to cut through paper, wood and even perspex to create just about anything your heart desires; from boxes to small embellishments and intricate paper designs. This is where I introduce the ‘pop-up’ cards which are so simple, but yet such a clever idea – just like the most things in life (I believe). Laser cutting without a doubt can add something magical to any invite or even blank piece of paper. Even the faint brown marks that the laser leaves in it’s trail adds something special to the look and feel of the paper. Laser cutting is a perfect example of the old (paper) and the new (technology) coming together to create something fascinating… Some would argue that paper is dead and the digital age will eventually make paper absolute – I couldn’t disagree more.  Rather the combination of newer and better technology will change the way we think of paper and what it can do for us.

Impress your guests with your ability to make stunning design decisions by letterpressing or foiling on a matte paper. With this option, drama and elegance is created with the texture of the pressed paper and the contrast between the colour you choose and the card. It is slightly pricier than the other options, but we guarantee it is worth every penny!

Lasercutting your wording out of black card is a stunning and unique way to go as well! This style creates the illusion of your invitation being three dimensional by using the depth of field your guest will see between the card and its background. This is also a excellent way to give your design an edgy feeling without it being scruffy and chaotic!

If you’re looking for the letterpressed look but your wallet is looking to pack its coins and immigrate to a remote island where it can’t be bothered by your relentless spending habits, full ink coverage is the way to go! With this we fill the card with digitally printed black ink, leaving your wording to be the natural colour of whichever paper you choose, and there are LOADS to choose from! This way you are left with a budget that may allow you to add a laser cut design such as the one featured above!

If you’re not brave enough to jump into the deep end and incorporate as much of such a dark shade into your order, detailed laser cut embellishments can be used to compliment an invitation designed on a much lighter paper!

We created a deep blue lasercut lace folder invitation with an embossed and gold foiled inner card. The envelope was in marsala red with a popping floral liner. The lace and floral detail was inspired by the elegant painting that you find on the traditional dolls, which we brought through to the menus.
